Vision

Creating an affluent women’s generation

Mission

Contribution towards a balanced sustainable economic development in Central Province by offering a qualitative value for the women’s economic life through women’s personal skills development using economically managed regional resources.

Objectives

  • Build up a socialized women’s generation essential for prevailing society.
  • Empower the women with knowledge, attitudes, technological knowledge and skills contributing towards the economic process.
  • Directing women for the product contribution, economic thrift, investments and savings.
  • Assessing the skilled women and providing opportunities for present their skills.
  • Identify the problems that faced by women and support them to find solutions and conducting counselling programs.
  • Developing Liyasewana centers regionally to increase multitasking activities.
  • Providing welfare services for the women in central province those who need to find solutions for the mental& legal problems they are facing in their day today life.
  • Offering training programs on income generating activities for unemployed women.
  • Conduct marketing programs to promote entrepreneur women’s products.
  • Social development affairs and Income generating activities for women in estate sector.
  • Celebrating special national & international days devoted for women.

Empowering Women Economically

  • Conducting vocational training programs for unemployed women and conducting training programs on self-employment such as; needlecraft, beauty culture, curtains(drapery), batik creations and patch-point creation etc.
  • Organizing business exhibitions /fairs generating market opportunities and directing trained self-employed women for production.
  • Conducting entrepreneur societies and organizing female entrepreneurs.
  • Providing loan facilities for women and directing them to apply.
  • Motivating female entrepreneurs and conducting assessing programs

Strengthening Women Socially

  • Conducting evaluation programs to motivate entrepreneur women.
  • Celebration of International Women’s Day, International Day of the girl child and mother’s day.
  • Conducting awareness programs for government servants

Developing “Liyasewana Centers” as multitasking

  • Developing “Liyasewana Centers” as model training centers for women and conducting projects conducting special programs for the betterment of women reside closer to those centers.

  • Conducting programs for uplifting the capacity level of women’s development officers and instructors.

About the Women’s Development Unit

As the foundation of the society & each family women provide incomparable contribution in keeping peace of the family along with its economic management and operational activities. Therefore empowering women would be a social empowerment. According to the population statistics of the Central Province the population of women is 52.56% (Department of Census & statistics –Year 2012). Hence it’s very important of directing & imitating women towards the economic development field.

According to the development process sources of Sri Lankan, a priority has given to widespread women’s vocational skill development and it’s also shows a necessity of the women’s contribution for the socio economic development process since women have taken the 52% amount out of the total population. Therefore it indicates more attention on directing the women for the contribution of socio economic development. Also there is a time requirement on consideration of necessities of the rural women’s population as it is exceeds more than 72% of population.

Therefore women affairs unit conducts their programs in order to overcome those objectives identified by the ministry of industries & sports.
